With a 4 time increase in positive COVID 19 cases in our geographical area and in the interest of protecting public health, the Point In Time Count will now take place in February 2022.

Home for Good, the Continuum of Care, and our Partner Agencies work from a client By-Name List. This By-Name List is a real-time list of people experiencing homelessness in our community. The list is monitored and updated daily to ensure everyone’s needs are being met and that no one gets lost in the system. The By-Name List has proven to be an effective tool in our mission. During the month of December, 2021, the average number of people on the By-Name List was 363. According to the By-Name List data and client-shared information, we can share the data for living situation and household type. The percentages reflected in the graphs are based on the average number of 363 individuals experiencing homelessness.

December 17, 2021 – Home for Good Newsletter


Every year, Home for Good, along with many other volunteers and Partner Agencies, conducts a survey to assess the number of people in our community who are experiencing homelessness. This count helps to understand who in our community needs help. 

Home for Good and the Continuum of Care use this information to continue the work to end homelessness in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Re-Entry Awareness

On Wednesday, June 23, 2021, Dept of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge issued a letter to Public Housing Authorities, Continuums of Care, Multifamily Owners, and HUD Grantees regarding the importance of access to housing for citizens returning to communities from incarceration.

“The President and I believe that everyone deserves a second chance and a stable home from which to rebuild their lives. No person should exit a prison or jail only to wind up on the streets.”

Just one day earlier at the Columbus City Council meeting, Councilor John House read the Proclamation declaring, June Re-Entry Awareness Month. Members of the Mayor’s Commission on Re-Entry were on hand to receive the Proclamation from Mayor Skip Henderson and update the Council.

Thanks to Mayor Henderson’s foresight, the Commission was established in 2019. Home for Good of the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley is honored to chair the Housing Subcommittee of the Commission since 2020. Working collaboratively across the community, the Commission has worked diligently to break down barriers to housing, employment, and full reintegration in our community for returning citizens and their families.

As our community continues to meet, head-on, the needs of our community, we look forward to strengthening existing partnerships while establishing new partnerships so that all citizens can enjoy a Home for Good!

Rental Assistance – Preventing Homelessness

On February 19, Gov. Kemp announced that the State of Georgia has received more than $552
million in stimulus funds through the Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

From the Georgia Department of Community Affairs: If you’re a Georgia renter who has fallen behind on rent payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you may qualify for assistance. The Georgia Rental Assistance Program can provide up to 15 months of rental assistance and utility assistance, paid directly to landlords and service providers on behalf of tenants. Columbus Consolidated Government has partnered with the Georgia DCA to improve access to this funding. They are holding a landlord information session Thursday, March 18 at 9:00 am and at 2:00 pm. Help for Alabama Renters Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) will soon begin administering relief for renter households experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic through the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Alabama Program. They will begin accepting applications from landlords and tenants for ERA Alabama assistance on March 1. Read more
